Our Location

ROOTS is based at the Anam Cara Retreat Centre in Inverness. Anam Cara lies 600 feet above sea level and overlooks the city of Inverness with stunning southerly views towards the Monadhliath Mountains.

It is only three miles away from the city centre yet surrounded by farm and woodland. The scope for walking is endless and is itself set within seven acres of land.

Our Facilities

Workshop Venue

The principle venue is a purpose built octagon constructed from locally grown timber with large patio windows looking over Inverness and the mountains beyond.

The log burning stove, oak floor, and turf roof creates a unique and lovely space. The building also has a kitchen and library for general use.

Accommodation & Living Arrangements

The guest living space comprises of three large caravans which are literally set into the hillside each with marvelous southerly views. The caravans accommodate up to five people in two single, one double and one twin room all with electric heating.

A turf roof pavilion offers comfortable communal space for both relaxation and eating. All food is prepared in a galley kitchen adjacent to the pavilion.

All food at Anam Cara is vegetarian. Workshops and retreats are fully residential with meals provided.

For Sweatlodge Ceremony weekends only, participants will bring food to share.

Other  Buildings of Interest

The Earth Lodge

The Earth lodge is our most recent building, processing a unique ‘earthy’ quality. The structure has been built into the earth, employing a thick dyke wall which supports a roof made of rough forest timbers topped with turf.

Isolated in the corner of the grounds and surrounded by trees, the structure is almost hidden from view and makes for a very atmospheric venue both for exploring ancient practical skills and more particularly as the principal venue for shamanic practices, rituals and ceremony.

Barrel Treatment Room

The ‘barrel’ treatment room formerly used to store ‘whisky mash’.

But it is now a place of healing, where a range of therapies are undertaken.

Meditation Shrine Room

The shrine room nestles in a secluded spot, and is always available for meditation.

Sweat Lodge Site

Our Sweat lodge site has been hosting Sweatlodge Ceremonies and Fire Rituals for the last ten years.
